In addition to Twitter, the company previously operated the Vine short video app and Periscope live streaming service. In April 2023, Twitter merged with X Holdings  and ceased to be an independent company, becoming a part of X Corp. Twitter was created by Jack Dorsey , Noah Glass , Biz Stone , and Evan Williams in March 2006 and was launched that July. By 2012, more than 100 million users tweeted 340 million tweets a day.  The company went public in November 2013. By 2019, Twitter had more than 330 million monthly active users. TikTok was launched in the international market in September 2017. On 9 November 2017, ByteDance spent nearly $1 billion to purchase Musical.ly, a startup headquartered in Shanghai with an overseas office in Santa Monica, California. Musical.ly was a social media video platform that allowed users to create short lip-sync and comedy videos, initially released in August 2014.
